  • OPPO will be the first company to adopt the latest smartphone glass protection.

Corning has announced a new glass protection called the Gorilla Glass 7i, primarily focused on mid-range smartphones. It is said to provide improved drop protection and scratch resistance to the intermediate and value-segment smartphone market, making high-quality glass technology more accessible to a broader range of consumers.

Capabilities of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i

It is engineered to withstand drops from heights (up to one meter) onto rough surfaces like asphalt. This outperforms competing lithium aluminosilicate glasses from other manufacturers, which typically shatter when dropped from half that height.

Additionally, the new glass boasts twice the scratch resistance of these competing glasses, ensuring that mid-range devices can now enjoy the same durability and protection levels as their premium counterparts.

Corning’s Take and Availability

Corning’s Vice President and General Manager, David Velasquez, emphasized the significance of Gorilla Glass 7i, stating, “Investing in a smartphone is a substantial decision, and Gorilla Glass 7i empowers more consumers to safeguard their investment by providing superior toughness for value and intermediate devices at an affordable price point.”

It is revealed OPPO will be the first company to adopt the latest Gorilla Glass 7i. This means we might see the Gorilla Glass 7i glass protection on OPPO’s upcoming A and F series devices like the A3 Pro or the F27 Pro+.

More details regarding this should be out soon, so, stay tuned for further updates.
