  • The new battery technology by OnePlus reduces battery size significantly.
  • It will retain the 100W fast charging standards of OnePlus.

OnePlus has developed a new battery technology called ‘Glacier’ that will significantly improve smartphone battery life, which is still a pain point for many users. This innovation has been engineered by OnePlus in collaboration with CATL, which is the world’s largest battery manufacturer. OnePlus is expected to debut these new batteries with its upcoming Ace 3 Pro smartphone in China, as per its official Weibo handle.

OnePlus Glacier Battery Explained

OnePlus officially announced the new Glacier battery technology on its Weibo handle in China. The company mentions that this technology creates smaller and denser batteries compared to the traditional batteries present on modern smartphones. OnePlus has also advertised that this technology will end battery anxiety among users and eliminate the need for a power bank.

Although OnePlus has not officially shared any scientific details about Glacier Battery technology, popular tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed some details.

DCS mentions that this new battery consists of a new silicon carbide negative electrode material with a new battery cell. This new cell type reduces the battery thickness while adding more density.

DCS also said that the Glacier battery will retain OnePlus’ signature 100W fast charging. As per DCS, the upcoming OnePlus Ace 3 Pro is said to feature a 6100mAh battery using this new technology.

Following the DCS report, we can expect Glacier batteries to retain charge more efficiently than traditional batteries. This will improve the power consumption cycle of a typical battery, which will extend both daily battery life and the lifespan of the battery. However, official details have yet to arrive from OnePlus.

For a simpler analogy, the Glacier battery technology is expected to be the upgrade from HDD to SSD computers, where the new tech is smaller, faster, and more efficient. As the technology has been co-developed by OnePlus and China-based CATL, we can expect it first to become mainstream on OnePlus devices. But there’s no clarity on whether this will extend to other OEMs.

According to OnePlus’s Weibo handle, the company has scheduled a June 20 event in China. It is more likely to be the launch of the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro. However, the company has not confirmed any official details yet.
