OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Edu, an AI tech designed for universities to integrate AI into various academic and campus operations. It is based on the latest GPT-4o and promises to bring advanced reasoning capabilities. Here’s everything you need to know about:

What is ChatGPT Edu?

According to OpenAI, “ChatGPT Edu is a version of ChatGPT built for universities to responsibly deploy AI to students, faculty, researchers, and campus operations. Powered by GPT-4o, it can reason across text and vision and use advanced tools such as data analysis.”

ChatGPT Edu can interpret text, coding, and mathematics, and comes with some advanced capabilities such as data analytics, web browsing, and document summarisation.

OpenAI will allow universities to build their custom versions of ChatGPT and share them within university workspaces. The ChatGPT Edu also has a higher messaging limit than the free version. Apart from that, OpenAI also claims to have improved its language capabilities, with over 50 languages supported.

What About Privacy?

It includes advanced administrative controls such as group permissions, Single Sign-On (SSO), SCIM 1, and GPT management to ensure access and usage are tightly regulated. More importantly, conversations and data within ChatGPT Edu are not used to train OpenAI models, providing an additional layer of privacy and assurance for users.

Universities like Columbia University, Wharton, and Arizona State University have been using ChatGPT in innovative ways that help students, faculty, researchers, and even in campus operations.
