  • Apple is expected to unveil iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 this year at WWDC.
  • The event is expected to be centred around AI.

While Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) primarily focuses on software, there have been rumours about unveiling a next-generation Apple TV at the upcoming WWDC 2024. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has dispelled these rumours in his latest PowerOn newsletter. Here’s everything you need to know about.

No Hardware Announcements at WWDC 2024

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states, “There’s no hardware slated to be announced at WWDC unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device launching later (to be clear: I don’t expect that).”

Previously, Gurman had hinted at the possibility of a new Apple TV featuring a faster processor and a lower price, which he anticipated would be revealed at the conference. However, he now clarifies that its launch “isn’t imminent.”

Software Announcements at WWDC 2024

So, Apple will focus on the latest iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 updates. But the highlight of the show will be AI as the tech giant is finally planning on hopping onto the AI bandwagon and will likely bring some major changes to iOS and iPad.

Apple is expected to bring generative AI features across its operating systems, with a focus on enhancing Siri’s functionality using AI models like Ajax. The new Siri is expected to be more conversational, natural, and personalised, offering smart responses based on personal details and cross-device media control.

Additionally, there will be UI changes with more customisation options, allowing users to place app icons anywhere on the grid and change their colours. According to Gurman’s previous reports, Apple will also allow third-party AI chatbots to integrate more deeply into its operating systems. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is said to be the first to get on board, with Apple also in discussions with other players like Google for its Gemini integration.

When it comes to macOS 15, Apple might take a different approach. Unlike the forthcoming iOS and iPadOS, the tech giant is said to refrain from introducing entirely new features. Instead, the company is expected to refine the existing ones. However, we expect macOS to get its fair share of AI features.

One thing to note is that these details aren’t official and we will have to wait until the event (scheduled to start from June 10) for a better idea. So, stay tuned for all the WWDC 2024 updates.
