  • Apple is discussing with Meta to integrate its AI models on Apple devices, including iPhones.
  • This could be similar to ChatGPT integration on Siri and other tools.

Apple is reportedly in discussions with Meta to potentially integrate Meta’s generative AI model into Apple Intelligence, the new AI system coming to iPhones with the iOS 18 and other Apple devices. Check out the details.

Apple and Meta’s AI Partnership

According to the Wall Street Journal, rivals Apple and Meta have discussed a partnership for Meta AI models on Apple devices. This partnership would allow Apple to leverage Meta’s advanced AI capabilities, including its Llama 3 large language model, to enhance the functionality of Apple Intelligence.

Like Apple’s existing deal with ChatGPT, the integration would enable users to access Meta’s AI model directly through Siri and Apple’s writing tools.

Apple has publicly stated that it is looking to offer a variety of models, so ChatGPT will not be the only one eventually. The tech major could also partner with Google for its Gemini model, Perplexity, and Anthropic.

This will be in addition to Apple’s on-device and cloud AI models. The integration will let people choose another chatbot if needed. The AI features will only be available for the latest iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max devices. According to Apple executives, these AI features will not arrive on standard iPhones, including the iPhone 15, because they require significant hardware power, which is not currently available on non-Pro models. Here’s a look at the devices that will support Apple Intelligence.
