YouTube has announced its collection of free-to-play games YouTube Playables is expanding to everyone. This means you won’t need a YouTube Premium subscription to play these games anymore. Playables were originally available to a small group of testers and later expanded to Premium subscribers last year.

The YouTube Playables catalogue now has more than 75 games. These can be played natively on the YouTube website or smartphone app (Android and iOS). All these games are free to play and do not require any download or installation. This is what makes Playables different from Netflix Games as the latter requires installation of games before you can play.

The website has a dedicated Playables page for browsing free games. In the smartphone app, you will find Playables as a new section on the left sidebar. Some popular free YouTube games are Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask, and Trivia Crack.
You need to click on the game’s tile to start playing. The best part is your in-game progress and high scores are saved. This way you can track your high score across different devices using the same Google account. There is a “Continue playing” section, which helps you get back to recently played games.
The idea behind YouTube Playables is to keep you engaged when you are not in the mood to watch videos. These games do not have ads, which helps with an uninterrupted gameplay experience. However, it is unknown if YouTube is considering showing ads or generating revenue from players through some other means.
Even though YouTube has started rolling out Playables, it may take a while before it becomes accessible to everyone. So, you should keep checking until it becomes available for you.
