Nintendo Direct 2024 has officially wrapped up, and it was jam-packed with exciting announcements for beloved franchises and surprising new titles for the Nintendo Switch. The June session of Nintendo Direct ran for 40 minutes and showcased around 30 games slated for release in the coming months.
The show’s stars were the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the all-new Zelda title featuring Princess Zelda herself, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. The Direct also showcased other anticipated games like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Notably, the event left no room for announcements about the Nintendo Switch 2.

Mario and Luigi’s Brothership
Nintendo Direct 2024 started with Mario & Luigi’s Brothership, the first new entry in the series in almost a decade. Set to release on November 7, 2024, this game features Mario and Luigi on a new island-hopping adventure on Shipshape Island, a unique combination of ship and island. The game boasts a vibrant, cel-shaded art style and takes players across diverse locales, such as rainforests and cities in Concordia.
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, launching on July 18, 2024, features over 150 speedrunning challenges from 13 NES games, including online and offline modes like “The Body Will Follow” from the original Legend of Zelda.
Fairy Tale 2
The trailer for Fairy Tail 2, based on Hiro Mashima’s popular manga, was featured next. This action RPG from Koei Tecmo and Gust focuses on the final arc of the series, where Natsu and his friends battle powerful enemies in collaborative, real-time strategy combat. Fairy Tail 2 is set to be released in Winter 2024.
Fantasian Neo Dimension
Apple Arcade exclusive Fantasian is finally coming to Nintendo Switch and PC as Fantasian Neo Dimension this Winter. Developed by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and featuring composer Nobuo Uematsu, this turn-based RPG offers English and Japanese voiceovers, an added difficulty setting, and a unique battle system.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Sanrio’s beloved Hello Kitty Island Adventure, an Animal Crossing-inspired life sim, expands beyond mobile in 2025. It will first arrive on Nintendo Switch as a timed exclusive, followed by PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, originally released on the Wii, will be available on the Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025. This enhanced version includes all 80 levels from the original game and additional stages from the 3DS version and features a 2-player local co-op.
Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes
The upcoming Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes were featured in the Nintendo Direct. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is set for release on November 14, 2024, followed by Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remakes in 2025. These classic RPGs will receive beautiful upgraded graphics, bringing nostalgic adventures to the Nintendo Switch.
Funko Fusion
Funko Fusion brings over 60 characters from franchises like Jurassic World, Back to the Future, and Chucky together in a wild action-adventure game. Players will explore new worlds, relive iconic moments, and solve puzzles as their favourite Funko Pops come to life. Arrives exclusively on Nintendo Switch on September 13.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics packs seven iconic titles, including X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, online play, and bonus content like original soundtracks and artwork, all hitting Nintendo Switch later in 2024.
Super Mario Party Jamboree
The next entry in the Mario Party series, Super Mario Party Jamboree, introduces an expansive island resort setting with five new game boards and returning favourites like Mario’s Rainbow Castle and Western Land. With over 110 mini-games and a robust 20-player multiplayer Koopathlon mode, it promises dynamic gameplay experiences online and locally. It is set to launch on Switch on October 17, 2024.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom takes centre stage, casting you as Princess Zelda on a quest to save Hyrule. Utilize the magical Tri Rod to craft echoes of objects and enemies, innovatively solving puzzles and conquering foes. This epic adventure lands on Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024, alongside a gorgeous, limited-edition Zelda-themed Switch Lite.
Stray
The critically acclaimed and charming cat adventure game Stray, where you play as a cat on a daring adventure. It is pouncing onto Nintendo Switch this winter.
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is getting a full remake, boasting English voiceovers, a captivating soundtrack by series composer Kenji Ito, and strategic turn-based battles. Set for release on October 24, 2024, this RPG invites players into a magical kingdom to confront tainted heroes and protect their empire.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
Saving the best for last, the Nintendo Direct concluded with a long-awaited reveal: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond! This first-person shooter puts you back in the boots of Samus Aran for an intergalactic adventure filled with alien exploration and space pirate skirmishes. While fans will have to wait until 2025 for its release, the first glimpse of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will surely tide them over.

- A free summer update brings basketball to Nintendo Switch Sports for 2v2 matches and online play.
- Mio Memories In Orbit, a 2D action RPG coming in 2025.
- Disney Illusion Island’s free Mystery in Monoth update, featuring detective adventures with Mickey and friends, is available today.
- Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports, which features arcade-style tennis, soccer, golf, and basketball, will arrive on Nintendo Switch this fall.
- Among Us Update, featuring new crewmate roles, is now available.
- Farmagia, a farming simulator, is coming to Switch on November 1.
- Luigi’s Mansion 2 is receiving an HD upgrade and will launch on June 27.
- The New Denpa Men is coming July 27 on Nintendo Switch.
- Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is out now.
- Darkest Dungeon 2 will arrive on July 15, 2024.
- The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Turok, and Perfect Dark join Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack with online multiplayer for Four Swords.
- Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero will be released in 2025.
- Just Dance 2025 Edition arrives in October 2024, bringing over 40 new tracks to master, featuring artists like Ariana Grande, Sia, and Green Day.
- Lego Horizon Adventures, announced during Summer Game Fest 2024, received another showcase during Nintendo Direct. Set for release in Winter 2024.
- Explore Middle-earth in Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, crafting a Hobbit life with gardening, cooking, and more. Coming winter 2024.
- Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, featuring remasters and a previously Japan-exclusive game, will be released on September 6, 2024.
- The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, featuring Takumi Sumino battling bear aliens for 100 days, arriving in early 2025.
