Following months of speculation, The Coalition and Xbox have officially unveiled the next chapter in the Gears of War saga: Gears of War E-Day. Accompanied by a brand-new trailer, this announcement comes nearly four years after the launch of Gears 5. Notably, Gears of War E-Day is not a sequel.
Gears of War E-Day Announced at Xbox Games Showcase
While details about Gears of War: E-Day‘s gameplay remain under wraps, a cinematic trailer has been released, offering a glimpse into the game’s story. As indicated by its name, the upcoming instalment is set during Emergence Day and features younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. The trailer shows a young Marcus in a desperate fight against a giant, scary monster. He’s barely hanging on, but his friend Dom pulls him to safety.
The excitement ramps up as Xbox reveals E-Day is built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, promising groundbreaking visuals as seen in the trailer. Check it out below.
Also, the developers have confirmed that E-Day is not a spin-off, but a prequel to the original Gears of War game. The game takes place 14 years before the first Gears of War. It will show how the Locust Horde burst onto the scene and how unprepared humanity was to fight these terrifying new enemies.
Unfortunately, the trailer did not disclose a release date or platform. Nonetheless, Gears of War: E-Day is expected to arrive on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The Xbox Games Showcase kicked off on June 9, running for an hour and a half and featuring numerous announcements. Highlights included new titles such as Gears of War E-Day, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: The Snake Eater, among many others. The showcase also unveiled new Xbox Series X hardware with increased storage and colour variants.
