Apple has filed a new patent, revealing that the company is exploring the possibility of putting a display on AirPods case. This means that an upcoming version of AirPods might be the fusion of an iPod Nano and existing AirPods. The patent documents showcase a rectangular display at the front of the Apple AirPods case. Take a look at the details.

Apple AirPods with Display Might Become a Reality

Apple filed the AirPods with a Display panel in September 2022 and recently updated it. As per the patent, the display on the AirPods case will also enable several functionalities. The company wants to give users functionality so that the music playback can be controlled directly through the display (without picking up the iPhone).

The Apple AirPods display will allow users to control music playback, interact with Siri, receive iMessage, respond to iMessage, check weather forecasts, and more.

Apple’s biggest competitor – Samsung showcased a similar concept prototype of Galaxy Buds at CES earlier this year. However, the Korean tech giant doesn’t have plans to bring it to market as a real product. Brands like Hammer and Fingers have also introduced their adorable TWS that come with a display on the charging case but if Apple decides to enter this arena, we can expect much better functionality.

Since the introduction of AirPods in 2016, Apple has only made minor changes to the lineup. These changes include support for wireless charging, a built-in speaker, Find My tracking and more. The company recently unveiled the updated version of Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Gen with a USB Type-C charging port. This one looks interesting and could be a modern spin on the old iPod Nano. But, since this is a patent, we don’t know if this will see the light of the day. We shall get more details once Apple gives out something official but this may not happen soon.
