Key Trend #1 - Samsung most sought after brand, Micromax gaining popularity with the new Android releases

With most hit models of the year, Samsung gained #1 spot as it ate away everyone’s sales while Nokia slipped down. There were popularity spikes for individual flagship product launches from Apple and HTC which later died down but Micromax has been able to generate continuous gain in popularity with models such as A100 (Canvas) and A110 (Canvas 2).

Key Trend #2 - Mobile phones above INR 10,000 are leading the way

Generally, the popularity of phones priced above the Sub 10K price range saw a boost in their popularity. As the year started, most of the popular phones were under the INR 10,000 as the year ended, most of the popular phones such as Samsung Micromax A110, Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy S3 which are all priced above the 10K price range, saw huge gains.

Key Trend #3 – Consumers are opting for larger screen size

There has also been a change in consumer taste with most of them wanting bigger and bigger screens. As the cost of technology is going down, we are seeing phones with larger than 4 inch screen size at cheap price such as Micromax Canvas. The demand for phones with QWERTY keypads and screen size lesser than 3 inches has died down.

We all know that the next iPhone; iPhone 5 (which will be its most probable name) is going to be unveiled in September. It is being speculated that Apple will unmask the new iPhone in front of the whole world on September 12th. Apple’s stock prices have touched their highest ever ($645) point in the anticipation of iPhone 5 launch. Investors are bullish on the company’s performance as they believe that iPhone 5 will be their best seller ever as well as best smartphone in the market after it launches. But will the iPhone 5 be good enough to defeat the best phones (Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X) in the market today? Let us see what will be the iPhone 5 features and will it be be the best smartphone in the market after it launches.

Bigger 4 Inch Screen

It is highly rumoured that iPhone 5 will have a 4 inch screen with ‘in-cell touchscreen technology’. If the use of in-cell technology is true, it could be better than the one on HTC One X because of its ability to reduce reflections and improving colours as well as viewing angles.

Sleeker and Slimmer Design

Due to iPhone 5’s speculated larger screen, it is obvious that the phone’s size will be a bit longer than the previous versions as well as thinner. It will not feature a non-glass back which is different compared to the previous 2 versions of iPhones. The glass at the back of the iPhone 4 was criticized for being fragile and easily breakable after a fall from some feet above the ground. It will be slimmer than most of its competitors barring the Motorola Droid Razr.

One of the best features of the iPhone in last couple of years was its camera performance. But Google has been doing some of the best features following the release of Android 4.0 ICS. Now that Android has the ‘zero shutter lag’ feature, it is feeling hugely missed in the iPhone. It will be better if Apple adds that ‘Zero Shutter Lag’ and also the feature to click pictures while recording the video. It is highly impossible but it would be exceptionally well if Apple adds in real time photo and video effects.

4G LTE Connectivity & NFC Mobile Payments

Current iPhone has every connectivity feature except 4G LTE and NFC. We are pretty sure that it will introduce NFC to improve the ‘Passbook’ feature. Also, the Retina iPad already has 4G LTE radios, so it is logical that Apple can carry forward it to the iPhone 5.

Social Networking Friendly iOS 6

We all know that the iPhone 5 will launch with iOS 6 on board, which has been showcased already in the WWDC 2012. So there is nothing which can be surprising at the time of iPhone 5 launch. The iOS 6 features all new Maps with flyover feature, traffic information and turn by turn voice navigation. It also brings more intelligent Siri which now has an ability to recognize more languages as well as launching apps. It will help in keeping the phones functional for 2-3 days similar to the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Also, the battery used in the new Retina iPad is double the capacity compared to the iPad 2. If Apple could repeat the stunt once again, iPhone 5 could have among one among the battery life in all the smartphones.

A double capacity battery and 128 GB storage option are some features which are probably not coming true but they are always nice to have which will help iPhone 5 become a dream come true smartphone. Nokia 3g mobiles below 5000

After yesterday’s list about best android phones in India below 10000, today we are back with a list of Nokia 3g mobiles below 5000. There are only two mobiles from Nokia below Rs. 5000 which are 3G compatible. The two mobiles are Nokia 2730 classic and Nokia C2-01.

Nokia 2730 classic

Nokia 2730 Classic: The Nokia 2730 Classic price is Rs. 3,450 and it is the cheapest 3G mobile from Nokia. The phone can support 2G networks along with 3G networks. The phone can be connected to the internet through GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth and WAP apart from 3G. The Nokia 2730 has Opera Mini browser for surfing the net. It comes pre-installed with windows live messenger as well.

The Nokia 2730 classic has a 2 megapixel camera. While that is not as awesome as the 12 megapixel camera on Nokia N8, considering the Nokia N8 price, i can not complain about it either. The battery of the phone has 3.20 hours talk time on 2G networks and 2.45 hours on 3G network.

Nokia C2-01: The Nokia C2-01 is another 3G mobile from Nokia available below 5000. The price of Nokia C2-01 is Rs. 3,850. While pricier than the 2730 it is not that different either. The C2-01 is an enhanced version of Nokia C1-01. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera compared to 2 megapixel camera in case of Nokia 2730. Similar to the 2730, the C2-01 has a 2.0 inch screen.

The Nokia C2-01 has a better talk time compared to the 2730. The optical zoom on both the mobiles are similar to each other. The Nokia C2-01 can be connected to the internet over GPRS, EDGE and Bluetooth apart from 3G connections.

If you can expand your budget a little more then you can look at Nokia 7230 as well. Even though at Rs. 5,500, the 7230 is more expensive than the other two.

LG Optimus 2X: At a price tag close to Rs. 27,000 the Optimus 2X falls right at the top end of android phones available in India. Unsurprisingly the phone boasts of one of the best configuration available in the market. The phone has a 4 inch screen and 8 megapixel camera. With a 1 GHz dual core processor and 512 mb RAM the phone is as powerful as most of the laptops available only 1 year back!! As a matter of fact the Optimus 2X is the first android phone to ship with a dual core processor. The phone actually competes with other Android based tablets like Samsung galaxy Tab and Dell Streak.

HTC Wildfire S: This is one of the android phones below 15000 introduced in May 2011. This mobile has got a 5.0 megapixel camera and runs on Android 2.3. Micromax has gone onto become one of the most selling mobiles brands in India. While all the buzz surrounds the latest mobiles like Micromax M2 and Micromax Bling 2, the Micromax X series continues to have some of the best value for money mobile phones. In this post we shall look at 5 of the best mobiles from this series. All these mobiles belong to Micromax mobiles below 5000.

Micromax X560: Priced at Rs. 4,237 , the Micromax X560 is the priciest mobile in this list!!. This bar shaped mobile weighs 100 grams and can house two GSM sims simultaneously. With a touch screen interface and a 2 megapixel camera, the X560 is completely worth the money. It would have been better if the touch screen were a little more responsive.

Micromax Psych: The Micromax Psych has almost all the important features of the X560 like touch screen interface and 2 mega pixel camera. The Psych has a better aesthetic appeal as well. Considering that it is cheaper by 1000 rupees compared to the X560, we recommend most people to go with the psych. However please note that the psych has a 2.8 inch touch screen as compared to 3.2 inch touch screen for X560. It does not have Wi-Fi support as well. It comes with a number of different color back covers as well.

Micromax X600: Touch screen and 2.0 megapixel camera seem to be the common minimum features for mobiles in this range. The Micromax X600 costs a little less than Rs. 4000. It is also known as Micromax Gravity because it can switch the active SIM when the user simply rotates the mobile by 360 degrees. The X600 has a 3.2 inch screen but does not have wi-fi connectivity. Micromax should have provided a stylus with the touch screen as the screen is not that responsive.

Micromax X510 Pike Micromax X510: This is simply the most popular mobile in this price range. The X510 Pike comes with a large number of backpanels of different colors. Like all the phones in this post, the Micromax X510 has a 2.0 megapixel camera, dual sim and touch screen. At close to 15 inches, it is one of the thickest phones in this list. However with a price tag of only Rs. 2856, it more than compensates for these minor issues.

Micromax X290: The Micromax X290 is quite different from the other four phones in this list. It does not have a touch screen. While the X290 has a camera, it is a 1.3 megapixel one. Even though the phone is available for only Rs. 1,719, it does not have most of the connectivity options. It does not even support social networking and email. So go for this one only if you need a very basic dual sim phone. Otherwise it makes sense to go for the X510.
