For shopaholics, the festive season is the time of the year when their wish list ends up in a cart. To cash in on this, e-commerce giant Flipkart is bringing in the next iteration of its Big Billion Days sale, which is set to place from October 13 to October 17. The company is going all out to spread the word. If not online ads, you must have seen banners in your city. Even head honchos of brands ranging from India’s Intex to the Netherlands-based Philips are showing up on TV to promise you “abhi nahin toh kabhi nahin” deals.
Last year’s Big Billion Day sale was a mixed bag. Some customers got great deals. But others don’t have fond memories of the sale, which faced e various technical glitches. These glitches were understandable considering the amount of traffic Flipkart gets even on days when it isn’t running any discounts; India’s biggest online store was unable to fulfill a slew of orders, and poor inventory management was probably a major reason for the obstacles many consumers had to face.
This time though, things should go smoother. Flipkart has been offering special training to its partners as it preps for the big shopping days ahead, including training in inventory management and efficient use of resources. Flipkart will be refraining from selling limited stocks at extremely low prices (some products were priced at Re 1 last year) and instead offering relatively larger volumes of products at low prices to avoid consumer disappointment.
There’s another major change in effect this year. Flipkart has announced that the Big Billion Days sale will only be happening on its mobile app, so desktop users will have to grab the latest version of the Flipkart app for their smartphone or tablet to take advantage of the sale. The app-only system should further help in preventing major hiccups, and as long as there are great deals on offer, we shouldn’t see anyone complaining.
Since the shopping frenzy will be going on for five days, the sale will be split into specific categories for each day. The first day will have killer deals on fashion, followed by home appliances (such as refrigerators and washing machines) on the 14th. Mobile devices (smartphones, tablets), arguably the hottest category, will be available at cheaper prices on the 15. The next day will be all about electronics and automotive, and the 17th will be focussed on book lovers.
MySmartPrice will be working around the clock on all five days to hand-pick the best deals that go live during the sale, so make sure to bookmark our Flipkart Big Billion Day section to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the products you wish to make your own this shopping festival.
